OFFICIAL: Coronavirus

Presumably the numbers will be from a 23 hr day due to clocks changing.

All over Europe the infection and death rates seem to be dropping :)

Ah yes, my apologies. Happy to be corrected on this one though, as that's back down to 180, a 29 drop on yesterday. Encouraging

No problem Ian. It's all rather confusing with many sites giving figures at different times.

Approx one and a half thousand people die every week in NI. From other stuff. That much I know.

Did u know that prior to the coronavirus, on average 1400 people died each day in the UK

I seen stats published about Bergamo which said about same number of deaths this month to month last year.

Testament to the stout stewardship of the Conservative Party. Under Corbyn it would have been 5 times that amount, cunt.

So why are we locked in our houses.

What do you need to go out for? Your houses are safe castles where the terrorists cannot get you, and where the Government and related agencies know where to find you, so that they can protect you.

Because of the huge volume of people who are sick, and at the same time. Hospitals can’t cope at the moment. Once they can though, we’ll be released.

Whilst we might not see the full picture yet, the numbers of reported deaths per week in Italy as a result of Coronavirus have not impacted - or so it seems - on the usual reported fatality figures. This is why there is some argument concerning 'deaths by coronavirus' vs 'deaths by people who had coronavirus.' The overlap between those who may have died anyway is still not clear and it's a controversial topic to raise as it can give the impression of being callous.

It's why, privately, I can't get to a point of being convinced about the whole response.

OK, not going to go on about it any more.

Hospitals are really quiet at the moment.

Indeed, only second hand information from a client who works at our local hospital. Saying its incredible how many of the useless cunts who invade A&E every day with minor ailments are now staying at home and realising there is fuck all wrong with them.

If only this particular change would last

Totally agree. This whole thing has shown that unnecessary and irresponsible use of hospitals (particularly a&e) is a massive problem. We need to look at this closely. Loads of people will jump up and down saying the government doesn’t fund it well enough, but why would you keep throwing money at something when people are so reckless with it.

In general they probably are given how much stuff has been cancelled to free up resources. ICU and critical care might well be another thing altogether.

Thanks for all your messages and support regarding my daughter. She is doing much better today and for once she is taking the antibiotics without many complaints, I think the alternative was the hospital again which scared the shit out of her.

I still can’t see her in person but plenty of FaceTime and is happy building a new Lego set that was earmarked for Easter! I’m doing a shop tomorrow morning and getting her and her mum some supplies. I’m shattered now, been working all day and didn’t sleep much last night.

I still don’t understand why they didn’t test her for CV but I guess I doesn’t matter much now.

People who may have died from the virus but died at home have never been included in the figures.

It could be as simple as that it was clearly identifiable to them as something that wasn't covid19.

Glad to hear she's on the mend. I wish I got lego everytime I was ill too ;)

Welcome back Wayne. Your measured, thoughtful and informative posts have been sorely missed.

That's great news Hu. What a horrible night it was for you and your family. Very happy that the poor kid doesn't have the virus after all.

It's probably not much to put your mind at ease, but it's likely because of her age. The odds are massively in her favour if it is CV that she'll be able to fight it off naturally.

1408 dead

1920 UK hospitals

A more useful stat than number of cases - which is meaningless as depends on level of testing in the general population - would be the number of hospital admissions due to CV, so we can see whether or not hospitals are being overwhelmed.

That is really positive, isn't it? Only a 15% jump. Previously it was doubling every 3 days, this would suggest a slow down.
