There's been a novel disease that ran through the population and had a smorgasbord of effects on various areas of the body. That seems like a fairly good candidate.
That's if there's been an increase at all. Millions of people attend football matches every season, they're often getting very excited, they're often in cold weather. Some of them are bound to collapse or kick the bucket. Before 2020 I never saw a match stopped for it, but it must have happened, the game just didn't stop for it.
