The Covid enquiry.

The Tories only throw the rich a lifeline through tax cuts which the poor pay for.

Survival of the shittest.
For them to get tax cuts they will need to be paying tax already, plenty more tax than you both before and after any reduction. it’s the people and companies dodging tax which should be the target, if everyone paid what they should current tax payers would all be able to pay less.

Boris the star turn today.

It goes without saying that he'll spend half the time lying. He'd be the worst ever contestant on Just a Minute ("talk about your handling of the covid crisis for 60 seconds without hesitation, deviation or repetition")

He'll issue a meaningless apology, blame everyone else and lie a lot.

I heard he got to the inquiry 3 hours early to avoid the relatives of the deceased.

I didn't attend 5 Cobra meetings because I didn't think it was serious enough.

Tougher border controls would only delay virus by a few weeks, Johnson says

The inquiry moves to discuss border controls.
Keith, the lawyer for the inquiry, asks Johnson about advice he was receiving "consistently" from 5 February to the end of the month that closing borders would not work to stop the virus entering the UK.
Johnson says the "overwhelming scientific consensus" was that trying to interrupt the virus with tougher border controls "bought you really very little" - at most, it would delay the virus entering by a few weeks, he says.
"I think a lot of people in the country found that very difficult to understand," he says, adding that the public often "believes instinctively you can fix this with tough border control".
A couple of points...
1) A few weeks would have been extremely fucking useful at the beginning when we were flapping about not knowing how to respond. It would certainly have lessened the impact of not introducing restrictions soon enough.
2) Interesting point about border controls, probably applies to people as well as viruses.

Indeed. A classic case of letting 'perfect' be the enemy of 'good'.

Maybe if we’d have more beds and a better funded NHS then we could have coped better. I’ll bet a pound to a penny that fuck all has improved on that score since.

My brother just asked his 11 year old daughter if she knew where the factory reset was on her IPhone. She googled it and 30 seconds later took him straight to it. Yet the then leader of this country hasn’t.

So he, Sunak and the PM’s secretary all had phone challenges, losing 5,000+ messages. 100% there is all sorts of “Let them die” “At least our pension burden will reduce” “Let the northerners die” type messages

Sweeping redundancies end of last year where I worked in the NHS so I’d imagine you’re right.

And this is the man who had the nuclear codes for this country. 🙄

I couldn't possibly detest the privileged, lazy fat fucker more.

The contempt the bastards hold us all in?

"I changed my phone numerous times".

Just you and Johnson, everyone else has all their messages.

Posted this on the other thread.

If the enquiry was in any way meaningful I'm sure that some of the boffins at GCHQ could lend their assistance. But quelle surprise...

So Sunak, making big on tech with Elon Musk about AI, is too thick to back up his WhatsApp multiple times. He says he had multiple phones and every time, would you believe it, he failed to back up WhatsApp.

This enquiry is just there to please the masses, it needs to go to the High court and criminal proceeding brought.

Correct.

There are the right proceedings being undertaken in some corners of the world, but not nearly enough.

Here is the man who can't use a debit card and cannot use a smart phone but he's leading the country.

Powerful stuff but only what many said at the time yet were called tin foil conspiracy theorists. Pick the bones out of that etc .

All five claims at the beginning easily explainable and not necessarily to be unexpected.

Also, did the guy at the beginning really claim that lockdowns were conclusively proven to be ineffective in April 2020? At most one month after they were introduced, when due to our woeful lack of testing capacity we probably had nowhere near enough data to be able to draw any conclusions.

Fuck me some of you lot really do need a crash course in critical thinking :D

PS, Welcome back :D

I'll have to watch it again but isn't he saying the death rate was perfectly normal and we shouldn't have panicked?

Even if that was the case, the death rate might have been perfectly normal precisely BECAUSE we panicked :D
These comparisons usually totally fail to take into account the impact of there being far less cars on the road, less people going out and getting pissed and falling into canals, less drug use and all sorts of other stuff not going on that would normally kill people.

The full story is usually a bit more complicated than the simple, selective statistics that these people put forward.

Does that follow then that the excess death rate we see post 2021 is down to cars , drug use and pissheads?

It's good to see the" anti lockdown antivax I know the truth" brigade are still going strong. (y)

In part it will be those things returning to normal, then an increase due to shit not delt with by the NHS during covid, which was one of the biggest mistakes that was made, but then the NHS was woefully underfunded and under staffed and something had to give. There will also be some deaths down to people getting worse infections than normal due to two years of not keeping their immune system topped up and some down to or exacerbated by covid infections that have left people with on going issues.

I'll tell you what the excess deaths won't be down to through (other than a tiny, tiny number), they won't be down to anything to do with vaccinations, covid or otherwise :D

you don't have a clue what's what and are just saying whatever to cope with queuing up multiple times to get a worthless shot

Yet many credible people reckon they are, you only have to look at some of the stuff on the quiet forum to inspire doubt. You posting laughing emojis doesn’t make you right by the way.

How do you know that?

During the first year of covid I didn't talk to anyone wbo caught flu. Were flu numbers down due to covid precautions? Or were the figures normal?

Yeah, could be someone trying to make a name for himself.

Or he's got a book out?

In with the Covid numbers , flu miraculously ceased to be.

I wonder why flu might have been less prevalent when people were socialising less and taking precautions against catching airborne infectious diseases
